Top dressing is one of the measures of comprehensive care for growing dill. Fertilizers are necessary for the crop for various reasons. You can buy them in a store or use folk remedies. They feed dill at certain times.
The need to feed dill
For the cultivation of any crop, the plot is prepared in the fall. This also involves fertilizing during digging.
During the growing season, top dressing is required for dill for the following reasons:
- Soil features. If it is not fertile, too acidic or alkaline, then fertilizers correct the situation, providing favorable conditions for growing crops.
- Poor germination. The reasons may lie in the poor quality of the seed or lack of nutrients in the soil. Feeding stimulates the growth of culture.
- Slow growth. Another sign of nutritional deficiencies.
- Yellow greens. This color change indicates a lack of nitrogen.
- Leaf redness. This problem occurs with an excess of potassium, it can be solved by appropriate top dressing.
Feeding is mandatory when growing dill at home on a windowsill or balcony. Planting in this case is more dense, and the amount of soil is limited. Nutrients are consumed faster, so you need to replenish them.
Fertilizer timing
Terms for feeding dill are individual. If the site was correctly prepared in the fall, then during the growing season, top dressing is carried out as necessary, focusing on the appearance of the plants.
The method of fertilizing and the type of fertilizer matter. If you use mineral compounds and make them watering, then just one treatment is enough. Spend it 2 weeks after seed germination.
You can feed dill by spraying, in which case fertilizer should be applied 2-3 times. The first feeding is carried out when the phase of active growth ends, the rest with an interval of 2 weeks.
Types of fertilizers for dill
For dill, you can use different top dressings. Some are sold in the store, others are made independently.
Ammonium nitrate
With proper autumn soil preparation during the growing season, the crop needs only one top dressing. Ammonium nitrate stimulates the formation of a bush and prevents yellowing of greens. It must be introduced half a month after sowing. Per square meter, you need 8 g of fertilizer.
Another option is to feed only emerging seedlings. In this case, the fertilizer consumption must be increased to 10 g per square meter. Allowed 2 feeding with an interval of 2 weeks. In this case, at one time you need to use 5 g of the product per square meter.
Ammonium nitrate should be used according to the instructions. You can dissolve it in water or make it in the recesses in the soil. In any case, it is necessary to avoid getting fertilizer on the aerial parts of the plant.
Ammonium nitrate is deposited in the green. It is necessary to strictly observe the dosage of fertilizer and not apply it before harvesting for at least 2 weeks.
Dual superphosphate
This fertilizer is recommended to be applied under the winter, but spring dressing is also allowed. This can be done immediately before planting, introducing 20-30 g of the composition per square meter.
You can feed the crop when seedlings appear. In this case, 10 g of fertilizer per square meter is enough. Make it dry in the soil.
Urea
This mineral fertilizer is applied with a lack of nitrogen, which is indicated by yellowing or lightening of greenery, a drooping stem. Per square meter, you need 20 g of fertilizer.
Urea is introduced, previously diluted in water. Top dressing is carried out 2 weeks after emergence of seedlings.
After the introduction of urea, the culture no longer needs mineral fertilizing.
Organic fertilizer
Organics are needed for a good growth of greens. It is recommended to bring it in the fall, but it is possible in the spring before planting.
You can choose one of the following options, observing the norm per square meter:
- half a bucket of humus;
- half a bucket of compost previously sifted;
- breed bird droppings in 20 parts of water, stand for 3 days for fermentation;
- Mullein to breed in 10 parts of water, to insist for several days.
Wood ash
The tool serves both top dressing and prevention from diseases and pests. It can be introduced half a month after the appearance of sprouts. It is enough to sprinkle ash along the rows of dill and pour them. The earth should be loose, fertilizer should be applied in the evening or in the morning.
If dill is grown on seeds or need umbrellas for salting, then wood ash is also used to stimulate their formation. You can sprinkle it along the rows or add a glass of fertilizer to a bucket of water for irrigation.
Liquid humic top dressing
Such fertilizer can be bought at the store. It is organic because it can be based on compost, peat, silt sediments. An excellent option is Biud fertilizer on several types of manure. Sold in the form of a concentrate to be diluted in 20 parts of water.
To prepare liquid humic top dressing, soft settled water is used. Its temperature should be at least 15 degrees. If top dressing is root, then 10 ml of the drug is diluted in a bucket of water, if it is foliar, then 15 liters of water are taken for the same amount.
Ammonia
The tool is an aqueous solution of ammonia, that is, it is used as nitrogen top dressing. This is not only fertilizer, but also the prevention of pests.
They feed dill by spraying half a month after the appearance of sprouts. It is enough to add 10 ml of the product to a bucket of water. Spraying requires dry and calm weather.
After another 2 weeks, it is recommended to repeat top dressing. Prepare the solution in the same proportions, but also add a glass of wood ash. The resulting composition is used for irrigation. It is useful to repeat top dressing every 10 days.
Nettle infusion
Such top dressing can be used throughout the growing season. It must be prepared as follows:
- Harvest the plants. This must be done until seeds are formed.
- Fill nettles with suitable nettles and fill with water. Additionally, you can add bread, yeast, kvass. Such products enhance fermentation.
- Insist nettle for a week, periodically mix the mass.
- Fertilizer is ready when the mass darkens and the bubbles disappear from it.
- Before feeding dill, dilute the infusion in 10 parts of water.
Nettle infusion is used for watering. You can repeat it every 2 weeks, watering the product under the root.
Ready-made complex fertilizers
Such funds are distinguished by a rich composition, which usually includes nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, various trace elements.
To feed dill, you can use the following fertilizers:
- Bio Absolute;
- Vermicompost;
- Grow;
- Forte
- Fertika
- Razion
- NovaTec Solub.
Ready fertilizers must be used strictly according to the instructions, observing the dosage. The compounds are concentrates.
Fertilizers provide good growth and development of dill, quality greens. Culture needs to be fed moderately. An excess of fertilizers can adversely affect the condition of the plant and the chemical composition of the greens that are eaten.
